Where Creativity Finds Its Voice

Located in the heart of the Hudson Valley, East Mountain Studios is a creative space for musicians of all ages. We believe that everyone and anyone can learn and enjoy music, and we love following our students' curiosity. By centering our teaching around songwriting and collaboration, we nurture self-expression and build the confidence needed for a lifetime of making music. Through learning the skills to play and create music, we guide our students to find connection, joy and most importantly - to be music makers for life!

Clarity Session

Get unstuck and uncover exactly what’s holding you back.

  • 60-minute deep-dive session

  • Identify blocks and blind spots

  • Walk away with a clear next step

The Mountain Method

Feel the rhythm. Speak the language. Make it your own.

  • Play from Day One: Music is a conversation. We prioritize playing and collaborating with others from the start.

  • A Solid Foundation: By building a "wide base" of ear training, rhythm and musicality, we give you the tools to eventually climb any peak or follow any trail your musical curiosity leads you down.

  • Songwriting as a Habit: We use songwriting as a vehicle to teach essentials, allowing students to truly absorb the fundamentals, and take ownership over the music they're playing.

1:1 Coaching Package

Ongoing support tailored to your goals, mindset, and growth.

  • Weekly coaching calls

  • Personalized roadmap

  • Accountability and mindset tools

What to expect in a lesson:

  • The Warmup: We always spend our first few minutes simply making music together. This is an important transition time to check in with each other, be present, leave the worries of the day behind and just play. There are no wrong notes!

  • The Weekly Goal: We review our weekly goal together. How is it going? Students self-assess first. Are we making progress or do we need a new approach? Where did you get stuck? Did you have any breakthroughs?

  • Songwork and Technique: Here’s where we take on new material. This could be anything from learning a new section of your song to a new scale, new guitar riff, piano comping pattern, drum fill, etc. We also focus on fundamentals of technique like correct posture and other healthy playing habits.

  • Music Puzzle/Activity: Our curriculum focuses deeply on helping our students begin to think for themselves as musicians. We help our students build a strong foundation of rhythm and musicality through sight-reading and ear training. Understanding what you're seeing and hearing helps you speak the language more fluently!

  • Songwriting: While many students shift back and forth between learning covers and writing original songs, creating your own music and finding your unique sound is always a part of the conversation.

  • Lesson Review: We summarize what we accomplished during our lesson and take videos or notes where we highlight our weekly goal and any specifics on how to practice during the week. Students receive a printed and email copy of their lesson notes + goal each week.

Here are a few ways to get the most out of your lessons:

  • Always bring your binder to your lesson! If you're a new student, you will receive a new binder at your first lesson.

  • If you get stuck during the week- don't wait! You may email, text, or call your teacher. We're here to help!

  • Let's take the pressure out of practicing. Daily short practice sessions (even 5-minutes!) can be more effective than one long weekly practice session.

  • Review the weekly goal with your child immediately after their lesson, and then check in during the week to see if they remember what their BIG goal of the week is.
